about this project
Mermaids is a photo exhibition that I have created for a Site Specific art workshop.
In the photos I tried to explore the relationship between personality and appearance.
I used the water as a medium to express the photographed subjects: I said to them that in the water they could express their inner being, becoming some sort of sirens at the moment of the installation.
The underwater photos were taken by asking the photographed subjects to submerge their faces in a plexiglass container full of water, with the only indication of trying to modify the “pool” as they please with the objects provided just to express their own creativity and personality.
The installation was made directly in the canal of Venice in San Francesco della Vigna and the photographs were exposed directly on the surface of the water.
In this way the observer was forced to lean closer to the surface of the Venetian lagoon to see the photographs and then be attracted (in fact, Mermaids) by the personality and creativity of the subjects.
